Hmmm, never really thought there would be a need for this to come up, considering that this is the Internet and physical identity is completely irrelevant. I am, after all, an electronic entity as far as you know. Divulging details about myself is the least of my concerns; in fact it is quite the opposite and I’d prefer letting people create a physical identity in their imagination for me based on my behavior and my interaction with them rather than using prejudged stereotypes they can wear like shoes.

However, to some individuals it seems that the particular detail I am going to share is so vital that they can’t wrap their head around communicating with anyone without knowing whether or not they are male or female. Well, for the sake of appeasing curiosity, I am a man. Though I don’t see that as relevant for the content of my personality…still for some people knowing that is as important as breathing air.

My main concern about bringing this detail forward is that, yes, eventually it becomes necessary when people choose to trust you, as a person, and share personal details about their life beyond what can be contained within one’s attitude, philosophy, and way of life. Basically, the living details that exist in the body and not the mind. I have developed friendships that have chosen to share details about their going-ons in day-to-day life, what they do, their dreams, desires…details that I’d only want people to share if they had a strong foundation of trust with someone they met over the Internet. After all, as stated above, I am merely an electronic entity that has no substance outside of it, except in my own life. If you can understand that, then continue on.

This journal entry will kill two birds with one stone. First it will let my friends know that I am sorry, but I hope they can understand my desire to keep my personal information to a minimal and my belief that anything pertaining to my physical identity is irrelevant in the Internet; when you are communicating with me, you are talking to ME (the very core of my being).
To my friend who said that she wishes her daughter to grow up with my humor, sincerity, and intelligence, qualities that you found rare to find in many women in your community: Please know this, I hope you still want your daughter to grow up with these qualities even though you expressed that wish to me under the assumption that I was also a woman.
To my friend who was shocked that he had been flirting with a man: I was completely oblivious to your advances, but I’m sorry that you were flirting in the first place. I’d assume you were attracted to the character of Gray Huntress and merely transplanted my personality into her body. I’m sorry for the shock, I hadn’t realized your intentions before and if I would have known I would have cut you short long ago…though I’d hope this would serve as a lesson to not make advances on electronic entities.
To any of my friends who had treated me as a sister or girl friend, I hope this bond wouldn’t be fractured by a social construct such as gender. I am and always will be the person you have been talking to; the entire foundation of our friendships have been come from the interaction of our personalities…I hope the kinship won’t feel the weight of this revelation; it should be no stronger than the stillness of the air without the wind.

The second bird to be killed is for anybody who can’t think of talking with anyone without knowing that detail. You are talking to my mind, not my body. My gender (or for that matter, my race, age, ethnicity, nationality, religion, or economic status) has no relevance in my point-of-view or what I say. In this case I speak personally, because I understand that there are individuals who DO believe and base their decisions on the aforementioned qualities; I’ve consciously chosen to rise to a different level of thought and I don’t expect everyone to understand…I’d just hope there are some people who do (which there are by the way for those who want to say ‘no’.

Now will I divulge other details about my physical self? No, I still believe it is irrelevant to the very core. So I’ll just give out some fake information for those who need it as well:

For my friends, chances are you already know the real answers to several of these attributes. My interactions with you are true to my being ,and I will not actively lie…but as evidenced, I will lead people to build their own assumptions until I feel I can trust them, or feel the need to satisfy (as is the case with this journal).
